I AM PORT FAIRY
Discover the secrets of Port Fairy, hear from the locals on the top things to see and do and what makes this region unique.
Oriel Glennen is a creative soul whose family history and love of the local landscape feeds directly into her art. She is a musician, composer, jeweller and visual artist with a unique ancestral story of Norwegian sailors and Cornish farmers, whose journeys across the southern seas initiated new life in the south west of Victoria.
Jock Serong is a writer and teacher of law who lives in Port Fairy with his wife and four children. He is inspired by the ever changing nature of the region’s landscape and weather and drew on the town’s rich maritime history for his first novel, Quota. Jock is deeply connected to the water surrounding Port Fairy, where he surfs, dives, boats or swims along a coastline he calls raw, rough and truly special.
Zoe and Jazmin Royal are Yambuk locals, based near their family farm just a few minutes west of Port Fairy. The sisters love that there’s so much on offer, right at their doorstep; swimming and surfing local beaches, day tripping to going on daytrips to the Grampians or Cape Bridgewater or learning more about local wildlife from shearwaters to whales and dolphins and more.
A natural leader and environment-lover, she also loves the music and arts scene here, works in one of Port Fairy’s cafes and is excited about the town’s growing food scene.
Roger Haldane is an adventurer and pioneer. He spent his childhood along the river Moyne before setting sail with his family to found the tuna fishing industry in South Australia. When he returned home to Port Fairy his innovative and entrepreneurial spirit shifted to farming on land, first with alpacas and Icelandic horses and now with Italian riverine buffalo. Shaw River Buffalo Cheese is an award-winning family business, whose outstanding buffalo mozzarella is iconic part of the region’s quality produce.
Roger is also a passionate boat builder and rower, artist and children’s book author and illustrator.
