THE 10-DAY EASTER HOLIDAY HACK
by PORT FAIRY & REGION VISITOR INFORMATION CENTREExcellent news everyone, the calendar gods have been good to us in 2019!
By sheer happy luck, this year’s Easter and Anzac Day public holidays land in such a way that you only require 3 annual leave days here and there to hack your way into a substantial 10 day holiday time in Port Fairy.
Easter is Friday, April 19 to Monday to April 22 in all states. Anzac Day lands two days later, on Thursday, April 25. With two public holidays in one week, you can extend your holiday to 10 days — from Friday, April 18 to Sunday, April 28 inclusive — just by taking three days of annual leave.
School holidays are on during this time, so if you want to escape with the kids to Port Fairy this is the time to do it!
The highlight for the Easter Long Weekend in Port Fairy will again feature the Easter Markets & the Port Fairy Belfast Lions Club Fair fund-raiser including face painting, pony rides, Irish dancing, an Easter raffle, handball competition, crayfish spins and a car boot sale.
The Visitor Information Centre with support from the Koroit Irish Festival will also hold a Free Color in Competition and free find the Leprechaun Competition for the kids. Leprechauns are Irish fairies, and each one guards an egg made of Chocolate. To find a leprechaun you must look low to the ground. Full grown leprechauns are about two feet tall. Leprechauns tend to be grouchy, so look for small men that appear to be very grumpy.
If you find all the leprechaun, you will win a chocolate egg. Leprechauns are hard to find though, to find a leprechaun you will need to follow the clues. Once you do find all the leprechaun, be sure to collect your chocolate egg immediately from the Visitor Information Centre because they are very cunning little creatures.
Anzac day will feature a dawn service at the War Memorial on Railway place, followed by a service with guest speaker at the Reardon Theatre at 10.15am followed by a march and wreath laying at 11am.
You want more family fun? Why not get the family together and book in for some family fun at the Koroit Irish Festival on the weekend, 26-28 April 2019.
The Koroit Irish Festival celebrates the region’s rich Irish heritage. The event is held annually in April in the historic village of Koroit - a 10 minute drive from Port Fairy. Highlights include the Gaelic games carnival (including a full-scale Gaelic football match), the Australian Danny Boy Championships, market stalls and food vendors. Plus there are more musicians than you can shake a sheleighly at, with ditties ranging from traditional Irish folk right through to shamrock ‘n’ roll.
While there is always great music, song, comedy and dance at the festival, there are also a wide range of other activities that make the Koroit Irish Festival unique and a weekend of fun unmatched anywhere out of Ireland herself! Please share the attached flyer and help us spread the word.
